Jerez Vineyard

To craft our product line, we have a 4-hectare vineyard on the “Nuestra Señora De Palomares” estate, located 65 meters above sea level in the heart of Pago de Añina, renowned as one of the most emblematic areas to cultivate grapes within the Sherry area.

“Owning a vineyard is an added value for a small winery, facilitating oversight of the entire process, from grape cultivation to the final product”.

This estate was acquired in the late 19th century by Xeranthia’s founder’s great-grandfather. Initially named “Cortina”, it was later renamed “Nuestra Señora De Palomares” in homage to the patron saint of Trebujena, the family’s ancestral hometown. Afterward, his son, Mr. José Pérez Pérez, wedded Ms. Ana Alcón Cordero, and together they raised eight children. He expanded his modest farmhouse, dating back to the 18th century, established a small winery, and began replanting in his vineyard. His four daughters, including Xeranthia’s founder’s mother, lived in this vineyard for decades.

Our vineyard’s soil is a fine albariza of the “Barajuela” variety. It is exceptionally white and rich in limestone and siliceous elements, which create optimal conditions for producing high-quality wines.

“Albariza” soil is the premier soil type for sherry production. It’s a soft, white marl with a calcareous hue, abundant in calcium carbonate, boasting excellent moisture retention capabilities. Its porosity facilitates excellent plant root system distribution.

In 1991, our vineyard was replanted with the Palomino Fino variety, a prominent white grape variety in the Sherry region known for producing dry wines of the Denomination of Origin.

The Palomino Fino grape is characterized by medium-sized berries with thin skin, juicy flesh, and relatively low acidity. The vine features dark green leaves, and its bunches are typically long, cylindrical-conical, and moderately to highly compact.  Bud break typically occurs around the second half of March, with maturation occurring by the end of August or the beginning of September.
