Our winery’s history
From family dream to winery
Xeranthia embodies the fulfillment of a family dream. Its founder is deeply rooted in his maternal grandfather’s vineyard, his mother’s place of birth, which the women in his family later inherited. This land has been the inspiration and foundation of this project.
The Artisan Xeranthia winery—Xera (Jerez, in Phoenician times) and Antheia (goddess of vegetation and flowers in Greek mythology)—was born as a tribute to the women of his family, who have contributed decades of care to the vineyard.
In 2017, Mr. Antonio José Bustillo Pérez, a graduate in enology and chemistry and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Cádiz, founded Xeranthia. His research focused on enhancing vineyard conditions, particularly studying the vine pathogen Botrytis cinerea and devising solutions for its control, resulting in numerous internationally impactful scientific publications.
He has received prestigious awards, such as the “Nariz de Oro” in 2006 from the Andalusian Association of Oenologists. With over 20 years of experience, he possesses extensive expertise in wine production and aging in Sherry Wines, having worked in wineries under the Denomination of Origin Jerez-Xérès-Sherry. Driven by his experience and passion for Sherry wines, he established Artisan Xeranthia Wines and serves as its CEO and technical director.
